New 40,000 sq ft facility to house cleanroom technology for food manufacturing and other industries at Blue Ridge Community College in Virginia

Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC), a US-based university, is building a biosciences building at its campus in Weyers Cave, Virginia.

The $20m project will see the construction of a 40,000 sq ft building to house a state-of-the-art nursing facility, a paramedic programme, and cleanroom technology for food manufacturing and other industries.

John Downey, BRCC president, said bioscience is an emerging field and he expects it will help economic development in the region.

"I think it'll make the region more competitive in terms of companies thinking about relocating here in the bioscience and manufacturing, especially food manufacturing arenas, and also existing companies that are thinking of expanding,” Downey said. “I think it will really help them as well."

The new facility is expected to be done by the autumn of 2019.
