US manufacturer expands environmentally controlled room to meet demand from medical device, aerospace and electronics industries

Diversified Plastics, a US manufacturer, has enlarged its environmentally controlled moulding and packaging room by 2775 sq. ft (257.81 sqm), in a move to meet growing demand.

“Many of our customers are in the medical device, aerospace and electronics industries,” said Annette Lund, VP of Diversified Plastics.

“This larger, environmentally controlled moulding and packaging area, along with the additional moulding machine, increases productivity to meet growing demand from current and new customers.”

The company, based in Minneapolis, has also installed a new 250-ton moulding machine that accommodates existing moulds, increases capacity and flexibility in scheduling.

In addition to this controlled environment, Diversified Plastics operates two cleanrooms and an environmentally controlled assembly room.

Less stringent than a cleanroom, controlled environments are pressurized, isolated manufacturing spaces with positive airflow as well as temperature and humidity controls.

The plastic resin is located outside the room and is piped into the press, keeping dust under control. Employees wear gowns, sterilised shoes and when required, gloves. Special mats on the floor reduce dirt coming into the room.
