Scheduled for completion in March 2012

Gerresheimer, a German supplier of plastic and glass packaging to the pharma and healthcare industries, is to invest €3.5m at its Wackersdorf facility where its Technical Competence Centre for medical plastic systems development is located. The firm plans to add an engineering and sales centre to the facility, consolidating its growing Medical Plastic Systems division.

“By pooling our development, engineering and sales competence at one single location we can further improve our service to customers,” said Uwe Röhrhoff, chief executive of Gerresheimer.

A two-level building with around 3,000m2 of total floor space will be annexed to the Technical Competence Centre. Construction work will start in April, with completion scheduled for March 2012.

Gerresheimer Medical Plastic Systems is a business unit of the Plastic Systems division, which produces insulin pens for diabetics, inhalers, skin-prick aids and disposable laboratory articles for pharma, diagnostics and medical technology corporations.

Gerresheimer operates two Technical Competence Centres for medical plastic systems: a central development centre in Wackersdorf and another in Peachtree City, Atlanta, US.
