Merck acquires BioControl to strengthen position in food safety testing

The acquisition enables Merck to offer customers complete workflow solutions for food pathogen testing

Food safety testing specialist BioControl has been bought by Merck

Life science and technology company, Merck has acquired BioControl Systems Inc., a global specialist in food safety testing. The acquisition opens growth opportunities for Merck in the food and beverage space; particularly in the US.

Confidentiality has been agreed on the financial details of the transaction.

BioControl, based in Bellevue, WA, US, offers a diverse third party-validated product portfolio lines, which include industrial microbiology testing, rapid detection methods for food-borne pathogens, the quantitative measurement of microorganisms and hygiene monitoring.

BioControl’s rapid detection technology and third party-validated testing platforms complement Merck’s portfolio of instruments and consumables fort food pathogen testing.
