Pressure relief for hygienic applications

A pressure relief system for use in aseptic and hygienic process conditions has been developed by Elfab, of North Shields.

The Hygienic Opti-Gard features a non-fragmenting, reverse-acting bursting disc with a smooth uninterrupted surface finish to reduce contamination and maximise stream sterilisation and clean-in-place procedures. The system is designed to fit directly between ISO2852 standard food industry couplings and clamp fittings. The system is provided with Elfab's ATEX-approved integral Flo-Tel burst-detection device to ensure failsafe detection and minimise the risk of false alarms. Hygienic Opti-Gard has a performance tolerance of just 5% across a wide range of burst pressures. It is manufactured from 316 stainless steel as standard and its temperature range extends from -80ºC to 480ºC.
