The UK-based international architecture firm RMJM, the designer of hospitals, cancer centres, medical schools and research centres for pharma and biotechnology companies, has set up a Global Health Studio (GHS), based in its New York office. It will operate in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia.

Steven Gifford will head the GHS as principal with senior leaders in RMJM offices worldwide. The new enterprise follows the establishment of the Global Education Studio in 2007.

RMJM ceo Peter Morrison said: “The Global Health Studio will allow us to bring together our worldwide expertise in cutting-edge technologies to provide the best possible service for our clients. Healthcare is a strong market sector for us and in the current economy we will strengthen our business by investing in science and medicine.”

“Healthcare will be the world’s number one growth business,” added Gifford. “RMJM’s team is committed to exploring and delivering creative design solutions in response to the growing convergence of healthcare delivery and translational medical research. This new studio structure will bring together our best designers and planners from across the world to create state-of-the-art healthcare and science facilities.”

RMJM is in the process of designing a Graduate Medical School for Duke University and the National University of Singapore.

Existing RMJM health and research projects include hospitals in New York, Philadelphia, Singapore and Princeton; medical schools for Duke, Robert Wood Johnson, LSU and Tulane; cancer centres in Alabama, New Orleans and Portugal; biotechnology facilities for Genzyme in China and Alexandria Properties in New York; and pharmaceutical clients including GlaxoSmithKline, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Pfizer and Novartis.
