Sanitary spray dryer for chemical sector

Published: 17-Mar-2006

Niro has launched the Integrated Filter Dryer (IFD) for use in the chemical industry. It is said to have all the advantages of its Fluidised Spray Dryer (FSD) predecessors, but with an improved GMP and sanitary design, CIP capability and product containment.

The IFD features a novel spray drying concept where all powder contact functions, including spray drying, post drying and cooling, as well as filtration of exhaust process gas, are incorporated into a single vessel. This reduces the space requirement, makes the IFD easier to clean, provides better product containment and gives more effective protection against fire and dust explosion.

An IFD plant has been installed in the facility of a leading fine chemicals producer that needed to expand production capacity for its food ingredients and pharmaceutical products. There was already a Niro FSD at this facility but no room for a second, so an IFD was installed in the space available.
