Sessions signs exclusive agreement with Datalase
Sessions of York has signed a 10-year exclusive worldwide license with DataLase that will allow the self-adhesive label specialist to use its patented proc-ess indicator ink technology.
Sessions says the deal is a step forward for its supply of DETEX gamma radiation indicators to the medical, surgical and food sterilisation industries.
Under the agreement, Sessions will manufacture and market the gamma sterilisation indicators, which are small self-adhesive labels that undergo a simple colour change when exposed to gamma radiation. The paper labels with permanent adhesive are printed with DataLase ink, which changes from yellow to red when activated at 5kGy radiation with an increased density of colour up to 100kGy. This provides an easy-to-identify visual indicator of whether the products have been sterilised or not.
Sessions offers two standard types of DETEX labels - Detex Dots and Detex Stripes. The Dots are unobtrusive 12mm circular labels while the Stripes are 48mm x 23mm in size with an 8mm strip of Detex ink printed down one side. This latter format allows the white area of the self-adhesive labels to be overprinted with variable information such as batch number, prod-uct number, date and time.
Using its machinery expertise, Sessions also sup-plies Thermal Transfer printers to overprint the Detex Stripe labels, as well as a range of fully automatic ap-plicators to apply the Dots and Stripes to both products and packaging.
