Shield Medicare puts emphasis on education

A convenient training aid to ensure correct handwashing procedures has been introduced by UK company Shield Medicare, the manufacturer of sterile contamination control products and medical devices for pharmaceutical, biotechnology and hospital applications.

Aimed at new operators and technicians, the Glo-germ Operator Training Kit provides a quick and easy way to reinforce handwashing, surface cleaning and transfer disinfection procedures. Unlike conventional media tests, the results are available instantly. The kit contains unique liquid and powder formulations that illuminate in ultraviolet light and allow operators to see immediately if there are any deficiencies in their technique. The complete kit is contained in a convenient carrying case. As well as giving an instant indication of handwashing effectiveness, the kit highlights how contamination is spread. According to Shield Medicare, it can help improve disinfection procedures and reduce the risk of contamination in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and hospital sectors. The company has also extended its biocide range with a unique cleanroom disinfectant, featuring its patented SteriShield Delivery System. Premier Klercide-CR Biocide C is a sterile filtered hydrogen peroxide blend and offers broad spectrum activity, including against bacterial spores. Premier Klercide-CR Biocide C, ready-to-use is a sterile blend of 6% hydrogen peroxide and deionised water, while the concentrate contains 24% hydrogen peroxide. It leaves extremely low residues and, unlike products that are a blend of hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid, there is no unpleasant odour, says Shield. The biocide blend is 0.2µ sterile filtered and double bagged under laminar flow in an ISO Class 5 (Class 100) cleanroom using a strictly controlled and validated aseptic process. The trigger spray bottles have the SteriShield Delivery System and adjustable trigger. The unique way in which the SteriShield Delivery System works, as a closed system, ensures that the sterility of the contents are preserved throughout use. The existing Shield Medicare biocide range includes Premier Klercide-CR Sterile Biocide A, a quaternary ammonium compound, and Premier Klercide-CR Sterile Filtered Biocide B, a blend of stabilised chlorine dioxide and a quaternary ammonium compound. Biocide B is also an effective sporicide that can be used in rotation with Biocide C. According to the company, this is the first new biocide on the market in 18 months. Shield Medicare has also designed a convenient wall-mounted stainless steel dispenser for its range of Klercide 5 litre trigger sprays to further reduce the risk of contamination in critical areas. An extended lever depresses the bottle trigger to dispense the spray, thereby allowing operators to disinfect their hands using their arm or elbow, to prevent cross contamination. The dispenser can be mounted anywhere and is easy to remove for autoclaving.
