Silver bullet for clean air equipment
With increased focus on reducing levels of bacteria such as MRSA, E-coli, C-diff and salmonella in hospitals, Apreco has added antimicrobial technology to its range of Air Pressure Stabiliser (APS) products.
The air pressure control equipment is designed to aid contamination control in cleanrooms and hospital operating theatres through the accurate control of room pressures. Adding Biocote antimicrobial coatings to the APS products will help to limit the spread of bacteria.
Biocote is based on silver, which has long been recognised as an effective antimicrobial additive, is widely used and accepted throughout the healthcare sector, and now used in wound dressings and catheters.
BioCote works within and below the surface of Apreco products as it is impregnated into the equipment at the manufacturing stage. Within the product the antimicrobial ingredient is said to work effectively to release silver ions to the surface.
In between cleaning, surfaces can become contaminated with bacteria; when this surface contamination occurs on an Apreco unit, silver ions that have migrated to the surface of the unit bind with the bacterial cells, denaturing their enzymes, and rendering the bacteria unable to produce energy so that ultimately they die off.
The APS products with antimicrobial protection are independently tested and are effective against a wide range of bacteria such as MRSA, E-coli, C-diff as well as mould.
Products have been tested for their simulated lifetime with no significant reduction in the antimicrobial performance, therefore demonstrating the antimicrobial efficacy for the life of the product.
These units can be utilised with Apreco’s cleanroom pressure monitor system to provide a means of monitoring and regularly recording the differential pressures held within the clean area. The company’s differential pressure monitor/ alarm system does this automatically, monitoring up to eight differential air pressure sensors. Full parameter control and memory-held alarm condition pressure values are among the many important features of the system.
