Texas Instruments is to build a new 300mm fab by the end of 2005 in Richardson, Texas, USA. This will be the second 300mm TI plant, the first, DMOS 6 in Dallas, has been in operation since 2001.

The Richardson facility will represent an investment of $3bn and is expected to employ up to 1,000 people. The project is dependent on appropriate permits and incentives, as well as market demand. The planned facility will be one of the most advanced semiconductor manufacturing facilities in the world, producing a wide range of digital signal processing (DSP) and analog-based system-on-chip (SoC) devices for wireless, broadband and digital consumer applications.
