Trolley washers set to make hospitals cleaner
A UK-based commercial engineering company is helping hospitals across the country combat cross contamination by supplying them with a machine that cleans meal delivery carts.
B F Engineering Services has teamed up with Swedish manufacturer Wexiodisk to supply trolley washers. B F Engineering Services will be responsible for the supply, installation and maintenance of the washers and the rest of the Wexiodisk range throughout the UK, with the help of a network of distributors.
“It is very surprising to learn that no hospitals in the UK currently have trolley washers for their food trolleys, which can readily transfer viruses all over the hospital. In these days of hospital infections I believe that the thorough mechanical cleaning of hospital equipment such as trolleys is essential,” said Eddie Barlow, managing director at B F Engineering Services.
The Wexiodisk trolley washer has a spin-dry system which produces excellent drying results with a minimum of energy used. Water consumption is also low, leading to further savings in electricity and detergent.
The washer also has a heat recovery system, which means it can be operated with only a cold-water connection. The efficient heat and sound insulation results in an improved working environment.
“The availability of these trolley washers is excellent news for hospitals. They are very efficient and get the trolleys much cleaner than anything done by hand, reducing the risk of spreading bacterial and viral infections,” added Barlow.
B F Engineering Services have already been maintaining the Wexiodisk installation at Southampton General Hospital for three years.
The company can supply Wexiodisk products off-the-shelf for smaller projects, but for larger schemes a bespoke design service is offered. The company’s product range includes dishwashers, cutlery sorters, and tray washers.
