Welconstruct shakes up Salts Healthcare plant

Welconstruct Customer Solutions has provided a workspace solutions package for UK healthcare manufacturer and supplier Salts Healthcare to aid its move to new and larger premises.

Based in Heartlands, Birmingham, Salts had outgrown its existing production facility, located in a 1900s building, and needed a practical and spacious internal layout at its new base on a local industrial park. The company turned to Welconstruct to provide open plan offices and maximise the remaining space for product manufacture; Welconstruct designed and installed a 2000m² mezzanine level to create an open plan office layout on a new first floor. A number of production and staff areas were also created upstairs using partitioning and jumbo stud walls. Because the building had windows to full height and the mezzanine was a smaller footprint than the ground floor, Welconstruct glazed the walls of the mezzanine to enable the ground floor operation to be viewed and to admit as much natural daylight as possible. Specially designed partitioning was erected downstairs to provide cleanrooms, stores and environmentally controlled areas for the manufacture of Salts' healthcare products. "We were able to substantially increase the amount of available space within the unit's footprint through our design," said Kevin Hill, Welconstruct's sales manager. "As a result it now provides a far more spacious environment, both for product manufacture and Salts Healthcare employees." Welconstruct worked in conjunction with consultant Engineering Management Services and Salts' M&E contractor to deliver the new facility. Welconstruct Customer Solutions provides workspace, supply chain and environmental solutions, including automated order fulfilment systems and barcode sortation, carton and pallet handling systems, partitioning, mezzanine floors, shelving and racking systems. It designs and installs HVAC and other building services and provides turnkey cleanrooms and controlled environments.
