The cleanroom specialists have teamed up to provide Aalberts Advanced Mechatronics with two new cleanrooms

Aalberts Advanced Mechatronics has added two new cleanrooms to its facility in Vessem.

Aalberts advanced mechatronics specializes in high-precision engineering, manufacturing, and cleanroom assembly for semiconductor, medical, and analytical industries.

They provide vacuum chambers, ultra-large machine frames, vibration isolation, and fluid systems, acting as a one-stop-shop for advanced system supplier components.

The cleanrooms were constructed by ABN Cleanroom and Brecon Cleanroom Systems using configure-to-order strategy.

ABN provided modular, energy-efficient construction concepts, while Brecon, part of the SRBA Group, focused on specialized construction components like walls and doors.

A configure-to-order is a methodology that uses pre-engineered, standardized, and pre-validated building blocks, like ABN’s ADAPTUS platform, to design cleanrooms, replacing slow, custom "Engineer-to-Order" methods.

This approach ensures faster delivery, guaranteed performance, lower risk, and improved budget control while allowing customization for specific project needs.

The supplier says that this strategy enabled rapid deployment without compromising on performance, compliance, or reliability, all essential requirements for controlled environments.

“In 2024, we initiated a project with ABN to install cleanrooms in Vessem,” said Huub Remmers, Director of Continued Improvement Operations at Aalberts Advanced Mechatronics.

“The small cleanroom, the 200 sqm cleanroom, was delivered to us within three months by ABN.”

Tom Vangelabbeek, Project Manager of ABN Cleanroom Technology, said that each cleanroom had specific requirements and that speed was an important factor for Aalberts, as well as energy efficiency.

ABN’s VIX system was integrated with the double ceiling, which consumes very little energy and requires very little surface area outside the cleanroom.

ABN Cleanroom Technology’s VIX system is a cleanroom ventilation concept designed to minimise energy use while maintaining strict environmental control.

At its core, VIX integrates air handling into a double-ceiling configuration, reducing the need for large external plant space and allowing most of the system to sit compactly within the cleanroom structure itself.

The approach supports a more efficient airflow strategy, where air is circulated, filtered and recirculated in a highly controlled way, rather than relying on energy-intensive, high-volume air changes typical of conventional designs.

As a result, the energy requirements of an ABN Cleanroom Technology’s VIX system are 10 times lower than those of conventional cleanroom systems.
