BASF opens new cleanroom lab in Germany

BASF has opened a new clean room laboratory in Ludwigshafen, Germany for the development of new process chemicals and customer support in application technology for the semiconductor industry.

The firm invested approximately €5 million in the new facility, creating 14 modern workplaces.

“With the new Clean Room Lab, we are now able to develop new products together with our partners to meet the chemical and material challenges for future semiconductor technologies,” said Dieter Mayer, project manager and head of development for Semiconductor Materials Europe.

BASF is one of the world's largest manufacturers of electronic chemicals, which are used in various processes of semiconductor production - in August 2006 the company started construction of a new integrated production plant for process chemicals for the semiconductor industry. The Electronic Material Centre Europe is scheduled to open at the end of 2007 and will create 60 jobs in Ludwigshafen.

Between 2005 and 2009, BASF is investing about €6 billion in Ludwigshafen for capital expenditures, modernisation and maintenance of its plants as well as an additional €800 million per year in the research and development of modern processes and innovative products.
