BCD opens Irish plant

Published: 17-Oct-2005

The BCD group of companies, based in Charleville near Cork in Ireland, has officially opened its new high-tech purpose-fitted modular skid manufacturing facility.

The BCD Group has a long history in the design and manufacture of process systems and stainless steel products for the pharmaceutical, biotech, dairy, brewing and food industries for Ireland, UK and export markets. The Skidtek division, which was founded in 1996, caters for the high purity sector of the stainless steel market, manufacturing complete process packages and modular process skid units. Skids are frames on which complete compact units are manufactured and assembled, to a client's specification. This involves the manufacture of the stainless steel tanks, the installation and all the piping work, electrical engineering and computerisation of the unit. The completed skid is then transported to the required location and put in place by Skidtek engineers. Systems include: clean-in-place (CIP), bioeffluent treatment, solution preparation, sterile filtration, and purified water thermal and ozone sanitisation. All systems are fully tested and validated. Skidtek Engineering began operations in part of BCD Engineering's vessel fabrication premises but since November 2004 has leased the advance factory in Ballysally Business Park, Charleville. The new premises occupy more than 25,000 sq ft and provide excellent working facilities for more than 40 employees. The order book for skids alone is in excess of e12m for the current financial year and comprises significant export value and high level import substitution. The BCD group currently operates from two locations: its head office and vessel and skid manufacturing is based in Charleville, County Cork, and an engineering sub-office located in Bristol, England, which offers design and project management.
