Byotrol makes a move on food
Antimicrobial technology company Byotrol is launching a major drive to promote its products in the food manufacturing and food service sectors and has appointed Gary Hilton as sales manager with responsibility for the food industry.
Hilton joins the company, which provides antimicrobial technology solutions to healthcare, industry and the food sector, from hygiene and process specialist Ecolab where he held a number of senior roles between 1997 and 2006. He will be responsible for growing sales in the food sector and promoting the company’s hand-held sanitisation products as well as its automatic fogging system designed for treating large plants.
The company’s technology has already been approved for use in the UK by the Campden & Chorleywood Food Research Association Group which has certified the product as suitable for use in the food processing industry. Further afield, The South African Bureau of Standards and Icelandic Fisheries Laboratories have both approved the product for use in the agricultural and fisheries industries respectively and last year saw Mattilsynet, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, approve Byotrol’s technology for use by the Norwegian fish processing industry.
Byotrol’s technology is said to offer numerous benefits over conventional biocides used in the food industry. It presents extremely low levels of toxicity to humans and is effective against a wide range of organisms including E. coli, Legionella and Listeria. Importantly Byotrol materials continue to be effective in combating the spread of micro-organisms for up to seven days after application, and because of how Byotrol acts upon organisms the development of resistance is highly unlikely and has not been reported to date.
"We are already making good progress in the healthcare market and this appointment will enable us to drive forward in the food industry,’ said Byotrol’s business development director Stephen Falder. ‘The size and the scale of the opportunity in this industry is significant and we already have the approvals in place and products available to start converting opportunities into revenue.”
