CFES to design and build sterile services department at Yeovil District Hospital

Published: 8-Jul-2009

CFES Medical Construction in Hampshire, UK is to design, build and commission a Sterile Services Department (SSD) at Yeovil District Hospital (YDH) NHS Foundation Trust. The contract, estimated at around £2.5m, was won through the competitive OJEU tendering process, which evaluates tender submissions on the basis of cost, solution, relevant experience, programme and quality of overall response.

Following a feasibility study, YDH required a compliant and accredited SSD to be built on a flat roof space adjacent to the existing theatre suites. This department will process instruments used in surgical and medical procedures and meet stringent infection control measures.

CFES will provide a complete turnkey package acting as principal contractor on site, managing the delivery of the new facility and assisting the client in achieving accreditation, which is vital for the success and ongoing operation of the department. John Davies, operations manager of CFES said: ‘Our core project management and design team will be working closely and in partnership with the YDH team to enable a successful build and fully accredited department. We will draw on our previous project experience and success to ensure an effective environment is created with correctly segregated processes for the cleaning and sterilisation of medical devices.’
