DuPont unveils ultra‑low‑temperature TPE tubing for single‑use bioprocessing

Published: 23-Apr-2025

DuPont’s new Liveo Pharma TPE Ultra‑Low Temp Tubing stays tough to –86 °C for single‑use bioprocessing and complies with USP Class VI, USP <665>, USP <232>, and ISO 10993

DuPont, a US-based chemicals company, has expanded its single‑use bioprocessing portfolio with the launch of Liveo Pharma TPE Ultra‑Low Temp Tubing.

Liveo Pharma TPE Ultra‑Low Temp Tubing is a sterilisable thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) line engineered to remain flexible and durable at temperatures as low as –86 °C.

The new tubing is manufactured in an ISO Class 7 cleanroom and is aimed at biopharmaceutical processes that demand extreme cold‑chain conditions, such as cryogenic cell‑ and gene‑therapy workflows.

According to DuPont, the product retains toughness, ductility, and resistance to bending, crushing, and impact down to –80 °C, while maintaining good pumpability with minimal spallation and exhibiting high burst‑pressure and chemical resistance.

Regulatory compliance has been a key focus. The phthalate‑free tubing meets USP Class VI and the extractables requirements of USP <665>, conforms with elemental impurity limits under USP <232>, and passes a suite of ISO 10993 biocompatibility tests (parts 5, 6, 11, and 23).

DuPont is supplying an extensive data package to help end‑users qualify and validate the material in their processes.

Global Senior Product Marketing Manager for biopharma processing at DuPont, Diana Salvadori, said: “In recent years, there has been growing demand for high‑purity materials that can tolerate prolonged low‑temperature exposure.

Our new Liveo TPE Ultra‑Low Temp Tubing gives manufacturers an additional option for fluid transport in single‑use systems, and it is fully compatible with existing TPE tubing technologies.”

The product is DuPont’s second TPE tubing introduction, sitting alongside Liveo Pharma TPE Tubing and a range of silicone‑based Liveo tubing and over‑moulded assemblies already widely used in the sector.

Salvadori emphasised that the new line is produced under the same quality regime as the company’s established silicone offerings, which are “known and trusted by the biopharma industry”.

With the expansion, DuPont aims to strengthen its position in the rapidly growing market for single‑use components that simplify sterilisation, reduce cross‑contamination risks, and support the shift towards flexible, small‑batch biomanufacturing.
