Airkey delivers scalable ISO 6 and ISO 7 cleanroom solution for UK semiconductor manufacturing

In the competitive world of semiconductor manufacturing and precision engineering, the demand for high-quality modular cleanroom solutions is skyrocketing. As a leading cleanroom manufacturer in China, Airkey continues to set the industry standard by delivering bespoke, turnkey solutions that meet the rigorous international standards of our global clients. We are proud to announce the successful fabrication and pre-delivery testing of a custom ISO 6 and ISO 7 modular cleanroom designed for a prominent UK-based customer specializing in semiconductor manufacturing. This project highlights Airkey’s commitment to quality, customization, and engineering excellence, ensuring that every cleanroom passes stringent tests before it ever leaves our factory floor.

Project overview: A semiconductor-ready environment

This specific modular cleanroom measures 13.3 meters by 5 meters (approximately 70 square meters) with a height of 3.3 meters. Designed to support critical backend semiconductor processes, the facility is engineered to house ESC (Electrostatic Chuck) build, cleaning, packaging, and vacuum drying operations. By adhering to strict cleanroom classification standards, we ensure that the environment maintains the necessary air purity levels required for sensitive semiconductor processes.

Key design features preventing cross-contamination

A cornerstone of modern cleanroom design is the segregation of personnel and material flows to prevent cross-contamination. For this UK project, Airkey implemented a robust layout featuring a cleanroom change room and an air shower system. Personnel must pass through these decontamination zones before entering the main production area. To further optimize workflow and hygiene, we installed a pass-through chamber between the production area and the external environment. This pass-through ensures that materials can be transferred in and out without compromising the internal cleanroom integrity, maintaining a strict separation between personnel flow and material flow.

Energy efficiency and environmental control

Maintaining a stable environment is critical, but so is operational cost. Airkey integrated ceiling-mounted air conditioners into the modular framework. This HVAC solution not only saves valuable floor space but also provides a comfortable and consistent climate for the technicians working inside. In a move to maximize energy efficiency, we installed flush-mounted air return wall panels. These panels are strategically connected to the fan filter units (FFUs) to facilitate the effective recirculation of conditioned air. This closed-loop system significantly reduces the energy required to maintain cleanliness levels, lowering the total cost of ownership for the client.

Future-proofing: Expandable cleanroom design

In the fast-paced world of tech, scalability is key. The client required the facility to be expandable to accommodate future growth. All Airkey modular cleanrooms are engineered for scalability, but for this project, we went a step further. We proactively reserved all openings and holes on the cleanroom frames during the manufacturing phase. This forward-thinking approach means that when the UK client needs to expand their cleanroom for semiconductor production, the installation will be faster, easier, and more cost-effective, with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.

Custom electrical integration

Power distribution is often an afterthought in modular construction, but not at Airkey. To ensure seamless operation of all equipment inside the cleanroom, we customized the electrical layout extensively. The unit features 13 pieces of two-gang power sockets, strategically placed to supply power to various devices and workstations. All wiring and sockets are integrated into a centralized distribution box. This setup allows for easier connection of new equipment, simplified troubleshooting, and safer maintenance procedures.
