The German engineering group has extended cleanroom technology and contamination-control reach into Southern Europe

INDUS, a German engineering group, has acquired the Italian biodecontamination and contamination-control specialist Amira.

The acquisition was carried out through INDUS’  subsidiary MBRAUN.

The acquisition will strengthen its process technology portfolio in clean and sterile environments.

“With this acquisition, our portfolio company MBRAUN is expanding its very strong international presence. MBRAUN already has locations in France, the UK, China, India, South Korea, and the United States,” said Axel Meyer, COO of Engineering and Member of the Executive Board at INDUS.

The transaction, announced by INDUS on 24 February, forms part of the group’s broader strategy to grow its Engineering segment and deepen its footprint in Southern Europe’s specialised engineering and sterile process technology markets.

Founded in Italy, Amira provides customised solutions and services for contamination-controlled environments, including biodecontamination, airborne particulate monitoring and control technologies for pharmaceutical and life sciences applications.

Its product and service portfolio supports micro-contamination management in cleanrooms, laboratories and controlled production facilities.

Technologies like vapour-phase hydrogen peroxide biodecontamination, a field in which Amira has recognised capabilities, are commonly used to sterilise air and surfaces within classified cleanrooms and isolators, helping meet strict contamination control requirements.

Under the planned deal, MBRAUN, itself a provider of inert gas and containment technologies for sterile processing, will integrate Amira’s expertise to broaden its process technology capabilities, particularly in biodegradable decontamination systems and contamination control solutions.

The combination is expected to enhance MBRAUN’s offering for cleanroom environments that require strict microbial control, such as aseptic filling rooms and other controlled contamination areas.

INDUS said the acquisition supports its ongoing EMPOWERING MITTELSTAND strategy, which prioritises international expansion and targeted acquisitions to strengthen key areas of technological expertise within its Engineering segment.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Completion remains subject to customary regulatory and closing conditions.

Under a separate agreement, Amira was chosen by ABC to be the exclusive distributor of ABC Transfer Rapid Transfer Port products in Italy.
