The cleanroom, selected from C2C’s predesigned modular range, will provide students with hands-on experience of working within a controlled environment, preparing them for careers in industries where cleanroom expertise is essential.
Enhancing hands-on learning with a controlled environment
The college offers a range of technical and engineering courses, with many students progressing into cleanroom-based industries. To ensure graduates are well-equipped with the necessary skills, the college required a cleanroom that would allow students to carry out sensitive processes in a controlled setting.
With over 3,000 students and strong links to more than 700 employers, Lancaster & Morecambe College is a key apprenticeship provider in the local area. Recognising the importance of cleanroom experience in modern engineering careers, the college selected a cleanroom that would enable students to gain valuable knowledge of cleanroom protocols, proper gowning procedures, and contamination control.
A cost-effective, functional solution
As a government-funded institution, budget considerations were a key factor in the selection process. C2C’s predesigned cleanroom range provided the perfect balance of functionality, affordability, and efficiency. The chosen cleanroom features:
- Size: 6m x 3m
- Structure: powder-coated steel frame with transparent hardwall panels
- Environment: ISO Class 7
- Integrated features: 1m x 3m change area for gowning procedures
- Rapid installation: fully installed within 48 hours by C2C engineers
Initially, the college planned to self-install the cleanroom, an option available with C2C’s predesigned range. However, due to time constraints and the presence of other contractors working on-site, the C2C installation team were happy to install the room, ensuring a seamless integration into the college’s engineering department.
Raising the standard of education
The new cleanroom aims to make a positive impact, enhancing the educational experience for engineering students by providing them with industry-relevant training. The freestanding structure required no modifications to existing college facilities, making it an ideal solution for the space.
