Glenair ultra-clean production facility installs innovative track-based power distribution solution

Innovative track-based power distribution solution Mainline has been installed within the ultra-clean production facility of Glenair, which manufactures interconnect products and systems used in the military and aerospace industries.

For high-reliability, nano-miniature connector manufacturer Glenair, it was critical that mains power within their new manufacturing area be provided without conventional sockets and trailing leads, because these items can harbour dust and impair performance of their mission-critical products.

Flexibility was also important for the Nottinghamshire-based company, so that disruptions would be minimised when production priorities changed and the room had to be reconfigured and additional power points created. The tools, equipment and machines that require mains power within Glenair’s cleanroom manufacturing area include soldering irons, bench magnifiers, extraction units, potting equipment, ATE test equipment and PCs.

According to Phil Creedy, facilities manager at Glenair, the main reason for choosing Mainline was its clean credentials. “Mainline eliminates the need for traditional power sockets and trailing leads, both of which attract dust, and the flat construction also negates the build-up of dust and items placed on top of conventional sockets,” he said.

Mainline power track comes in standard lengths of 2.2m which can easily be cut to size on-site for shorter length requirements, or joined together for longer spans. Maximum current capability of Mainline is 32A and up to 16 adaptors can be fitted onto a single metre of track.

Suitable for use in new builds and refurbished developments, Mainline can also be installed as a retro fit in rooms where additional power outlets are required. It can be stand-alone or integrated into skirting boards, chair rails and along work surfaces.

As well as manufacturing and test environments, Mainline is also suitable for use within offices, at retail Point of Sale locations, in school classrooms, laboratories, workshops, kitchens, behind multi-media systems in the home and in many other commercial and domestic environments.

Mainline is exclusively distributed in the UK and Ireland by Steljes Ltd.
