Mettler detector is food for thought

Mettler Toledo has provided Rea Valley Specialty Foods, based in Shrewsbury, UK, with “quite possibly the most advanced metal detection solution yet to be installed by a UK food manufacturer”, according to Mettler.

Rea Valley produce high quality meats, and practise an inspection regime beyond existing industry standards. The firm turned to Mettler Toledo's new Product Inspection Division to assist them in detecting the presence of minute metal particles in frozen meat products weighing up to 25kg.

Mettler Toledo developed a large pack conveyorised metal detector for Rea Valley, taking into account factors such as larger aperture capability, and “the orientation effect” - when detecting a non-spherical metal particle is easier in one orientation compared with another. Its solution was a three-headed metal detection system from the company's Safeline R-Series range.

“In creating this new triple head solution, we have developed a new industry benchmark for those organisations requiring the ultimate levels of metal detection", said Mike Bradley, business manager at Mettler Toledo's new division.
