Isotron has acquired the Dutch sterilisation service provider, Gammaster International.

The deal creates the largest chain of sterilisation sites in Europe. John Barker, chief executive of Isotron said that the acquisition provided customers with greater choice and flexibility. Gammaster offers gamma radiation sterilisation and decontamination services for businesses in the medical device, medical packaging and foodstuffs industries. Isotron's business revolves around three main technologies:gamma irradiation, electron beam and ethylene oxide.

The combined group will have 18 locations. The company's acquisition comes shortly after it opened a 10 MeV electron beam plant at Daventry, UK, specifically designed for sterilising medical devices.
