The Society of Environmental Engineers

Published: 1-Feb-2007

The SEE is a professional Society promoting the discipline of environmental engineering, and providing members with information, training and representation within this field.

Environmental engineering is concerned with the measurement modelling, control and simulation of all types of environment. It brings together aspects of mechanical, electrical, electronic, aeronautical, civil, energy and chemical engineering. It also draws from the fields of physics, acoustics, metallurgy, microbiology, pharmacy and many other technical and scientific disciplines.

Since its foundation in 1959, the Society has grown and developed as a focus for activities at local, national and international levels. Members come from areas of business and academia, and from all levels within their organisations.

The activities of the Society include technical meetings, educational courses, exhibitions, workshops, industrial visits, social evenings, and national and international conferences. To meet the needs of members in particular fields, there are five technical groups, covering: Contamination Control, Climatic, Packaging Logistics, ESS and Reliability, Vibration, Shock and Noise.

The Society publishes the quarterly journal Environmental Engineering and a regular newsletter. Other publications include the Test House Directory (also on-line) and proceedings of meetings organised by the Society.

A key role of the SEE is as a lobbying force representing the professional interests of environmental engineers. The Society provides nominated representatives to a number of national and international committees, such as those concerned with design and test standards. It also plays a prominent part in the European forum Committee of European Environmental Engineering Societies (CEEES) where it currently holds the Presidency.
