UK biocide developer wins award for new delivery system

A UK company based in the north of England with 40 years experience developing biocides, has been honoured for its input in developing a sterile sporicide delivery system.

Agma received the Alufoil Trophy 2008 from the European Aluminium Foil Association for its development of its Zyceine product.

Zyceine is a two-part system in which the two components remain separated until mixed and activated at the point of use by the operator. This means that the product does not degrade during sterilisation by ? irradiation or in extended storage.

The Zyceine pouch contains five low linting, premium quality wipes which are used in environments such as hospitals, pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturing companies in a rotational regime.

“Agma worked closely with packaging supplier Protective Packaging to develop this two-compartment, three layer laminate foil pouch pack to ensure the complete segregation of the two components within the system during irradiation and storage,” said Chris Graham, Agma’s healthcare business manager. “When ready for use, the vulnerable seal is ruptured and the base and activator mixed within the closed pack. When opened, the wipes contain exactly the correct amount and concentration of this tried and tested sporicide.”

Company healthcare business manager John Gould, said: “We are very proud to receive this award and to have had our innovative design & technology recognised in this way in Europe is very satisfying.“

He added: “We have formulated the chemistry of Zyceine in such a way as to create a product which is much more user friendly and much less corrosive to critical surfaces and equipment than traditional sporicides.
