Vending system cleans up high costs

Ecovend, a computerised chemical vending machine, is being hailed as providing a breakthrough in cleaning costs by Diversified Solution.

Described as the world's most sophisticated computerised vending machine, 18 months of onsite trials are said to have demonstrated massive savings through the strategic management of staff, cleaning schedules, chemicals and water. The machine has a computer 'brain' that regulates the exact chemical dispensation determined by the needs of the job at hand. "The user logs on through either biometric (fingerprint) identification or a password," developer Chris Luxton explained. "A touch screen with simple-to-follow step-by-step instructions makes for ease of operation and the machine is linked to management monitoring via intranet or internet, allowing for real-time appraisal and optimisation of chemical and labour usage." Subsequently, any operators assigned to that particular unit log in individually, recording both a password and a fingerprint. The program stores information regarding individual log on and off times as well as chemical and water usage. This information can be accessed by managers in 'real-time' or whenever required through GSM technology. Currently available in two sizes – offering either an eight or a four chemical dispenser – Ecovend's advanced features include a special pump to dispense very dense chemical compounds that usually have to be manually apportioned, and an ability to 'self clean'. Alternating chemical and water dispensation cleans the pipes ready for the next operation, which may involve a change in the chemical used. This facility eliminates the downtime and water wastage experienced with other vendors. The ability to measure water usage also highlights an arena under an ever-tightening scrutiny because of growing imbalances in supply and demand.
