BIM (Business Information Modelling) is an example of technology at work within the construction sector which adds value for the many stakeholders involved in the delivery of large technology construction projects.
'This technology isn’t necessarily new – Ardmac has been using BIM for almost four years now, but the more we use it in collaboration with clients, design teams and architects, the more everyone benefits,' said Dermot McKenna, Group Technical Manager at Ardmac.
Business Information Modelling is the process which involves creating and using an intelligent 3D model to inform and communicate key project decisions amongst the stakeholder team across the project lifecycle. 'This is a major advancement for an organisation like Ardmac and it’s very much becoming the industry standard. It helps with design, visualisation and simulation and ultimately makes it easier for everyone to achieve project goals,' added McKenna.
'One of the major benefits for us is that it improves collaboration with clients and stakeholders throughout the duration of the project. It allows for better time and team management – everyone involved in the project is so much better prepared when they arrive on site and most discussions will take place round a table or on conference calls, whilst we all view the same picture.'
'We are always looking at our systems and processes and are happy to embrace that which will add value to our work and benefit our clients,' said Roy Millar, Group Business Director. 'Projects typically move more smoothly, enjoying faster client approval and when you add in cost control and time management, everyone benefits.'
