Medisize helps with preservation of donor organs
Medisize, a Netherlands–based manufacturer of single use, sterile medical devices, is to contract manufacture the Doorzand Airdrive — the first disposable preservation system for donor organs, developed by Doorzand Medical Innovations.
Lightweight, and compact, the Airdrive preserves, oxygenates and safeguards donor organs over an extended period of time. A new Polysol perfusion solution that metabolically supports the organ during preservation is to be applied with the Airdrive. Medisize will assist in the end stage development and undertake the moulding and assembly of components, the sourcing and assembly of oxygen and perfusion fluid pathways, electronic circuits and the final assembly, testing and sterilisation of the system. All production will take place in its cleanroom facility in the Netherlands. Benedict Doorschodt, ceo of Doorzand, said: "The experience and expertise of Medisize in cleanroom manufacturing and assembly of medical devices is enabling Doorzand to bring the product rapidly to the market."
