STERIS will invest $600m to build a new formulated chemistries manufacturing and distribution Centre of Excellence in North Carolina for infection prevention and contamination control products used in pharmaceutical and healthcare manufacturing.
The 600,000 sqft facility, located near the Raleigh-Durham Research Triangle, will manufacture formulated chemistries used in sterilisation, disinfection and contamination control applications before distributing products across STERIS' global customer base.
STERIS has described the new facility as its largest single-site investment to date.
Construction will take place in phases, with distribution operations expected to begin within two to three years.
Once complete, the site will consolidate formulated chemistries manufacturing and distribution currently carried out at the company's facilities in St Louis, Missouri, and Plymouth, Minnesota.
According to STERIS, the new Centre of Excellence will increase manufacturing capacity, support product development and strengthen its supply chain for contamination control products supplied to regulated healthcare and pharmaceutical environments.
“STERIS is making a major investment in North Carolina, which reinforces our state’s reputation as a powerhouse in the life sciences industry,” said North Carolina Governor Josh Stein.
The new facility builds on STERIS' recent growth, with the company reporting a 10% rise in second-quarter revenue last year, supported by increasing demand across its life sciences and sterilisation businesses.
